Lunar New Year - Xiaoping Luo Master of Chinese Ceramic Art

Sculpture Art

Art is influenced by the human condition. Currently we are all living through a global pandemic that has changed the way we see the world. Professor Xiaoping Luo’s art reflects just that through the making of sculpture.

Xiaoping Luo’s (born 1960 - present), roots are in the ancient pottery tradition of the Yixing region of China. It is his sculpture, however, that has defined his work for much of his 40 year career which has won him many domestic and international art awards.

Using slab construction, he creates large figures such as those in his Times Square (2004) series, in which he addresses what he sees as the problems of the world. He explores themes such as the human body in all of its variety and emotional states, through simple figures.

His current installation, "Quarantine Diaries," focuses on the human suffering and struggles of the Covid-19 pandemic. Professor Luo invites you to interpret the emotional states and social impact of Covid-19 through this collection.
