Growing up in Shanxi Province, China, the "birthplace of noodles," one gets used to eating a daily noodle dish.  So, the creativity seen in many hundred varieties of noodles encompassing shapes, textures, sizes, grains and ingredients is truly staggering.  Come and join the exploration where history and culture collide in a simple dish of noodles and learn how local characteristics imbue each type with a distinctive region of China.

This celestial presentation shares the astronomical meaning to measuring years by the lunar calendar.  While there is no absolute "best" way to mark the passing of time, the Lunar calendar plays a role in many ancient cultures.  Today, the Lunar calendar shapes the lives of those who follow its cycles from choosing the date of a child's conception to wedding and funeral arrangements.  This session proves to be both educational and entertaining.

Next time you reach for the pepper, consider how Peppercorns have been used to spice up foods for more than 4,000 years.  The Globalization of Spices presentation will focus on the value of spices as a commodity in ancient times and how spices were used for seasoning foods, creating cosmetics and in healing and preservation practices.  Most importantly, you'll learn how the use of spices in the ancient world influences our use today as spices moved throughout the world from East to West and South to North.
