The PVCC Student Nursing Association (SNA) is evolving and thriving this semester. They are excited to be together and back on campus engaging in actual hands-on clinical rotations, and holding in-person SNA meetings. The new nursing lab in the Health Sciences building is finally opening and plans are underway to embark on a medical mission trip next summer! There is so much to look forward to and be thankful for as a PVCC Nursing Student.
This semester, the SNA has been working with the Singletons, a non-profit organization that helps low income, single-parent families affected by cancer. Initially, they hosted a "Bare Necessities'' item drive. They collected household and self-care/hygiene necessities and donated products valued at approximately $450 to help many families.
They also participated in a "Trunk or Treat" event for the Singletons. Four of the members decorated their cars and welcomed families to trick or treat and collect their weekly "Bare Necessities" items.
During the month of November, the SNA is hosting a drive for Child Crisis AZ. The drive is to supply Thanksgiving meal boxes to families in need. Last year, they were able to provide nine families with everything they needed for a wonderful Thanksgiving dinner! This year, they have set their sights on increasing the number of families they will support in this manner. Child Crisis AZ provides emergency shelter, foster care, adoption, counseling, early education, and parenting support services to children, youth and families.
SNA members participated in the "Moving Day'' Parkinson's Walk on November 6th to raise awareness about Parkinson's disease in the community. This inspiring and empowering annual fundraising walk event unites people around the country. The Parkinson’s Foundation makes life better for people with Parkinson’s disease by improving care and advancing research toward a cure. Learn more: https://movingdaywalk.org
Currently plans are underway to organize a blood drive at PVCC to be held in November. In addition to all of the community service endeavors of our PVCC SNA, they are actively engaged in learning to utilize the new, high fidelity simulation rooms in the newly expanded Health Sciences Building
