At Paradise Valley Community College, we are committed to recognizing and reflecting diversity and inclusion for our students, faculty, and staff, and local community. By embracing equity, engagement, inclusion, and innovation (DEIE), we can positively impact not only our surrounding community but society as a whole. It takes time, but little by little, we are working diligently through multiple platforms to do just this.
First off, PVCC’s DEIE committee, comprised of dedicated faculty and staff volunteers, have ambitiously hosted a variety of sessions to expand our knowledge. Classes have included Civil Dialogue Moderator Training, Safe Space Training, Trauma-Informed Care, Creating Culturally Safe Spaces for American Indian Students, Race Literacy, Anti-racism, the Intersections Between Gender and Race, Mental Health First Aid. And we’re just getting started.
Points of Pride
The Union Hills campus, located in northeast Phoenix, spotlights diverse art across the college, including an Indigenous Public Art Project to Commemorate Our Land Acknowledgement. This project was a collaboration between Native American artists and a team of PVCC faculty, staff and students, who together designed and created permanent works of art for display in the college’s amphitheater. Additionally, the college’s Buxton library is home of a replica of the terracotta sculptures depicting the armies of Qin Shi Huang. Honoring Culture and Heritage
PVCC’s enhanced Heritage Month events include insightful panel discussions and programming. Examples include Black History Month, Hispanic Heritage Month, Native American Heritage Month, and Women’s Herstory Month. PVCC also officially and formally added celebrations of Asian, Pacific Islander, and Indian Heritage Months and Pride/LGBTQIA+
Student Life hosts a three-day Club Rush event each fall and spring, exposing students to the multitude of groups here on campus. The event attracts hundreds of students each semester and acts as a gateway for newcomers to get involved, follow their passions and find their people.
Reaching Our Extended Community
- Student Life hosts quarterly food distributions in partnership with St. Mary’s Food Bank, serving more than 700 families in the community.
- The International Film Festival debuts films from around the world that feature different cultures and languages. It is held twice a year, attracting hundreds of viewers.
- Entrepreneurship and Innovation Week features entrepreneurial leaders from PVCC and across the Valley, discussing the dynamics and impact of innovation and entrepreneurial thinking in arts, finance, law, service learning, health sciences, information technology, economics, career management, and business.

La Diversidad brilla en PVCC
En el Colegio Comunitario de Paradise Valley, estamos comprometidos a reconocer y reflejar la diversidad y la inclusión de nuestros estudiantes, profesores, personal y comunidad. Adoptando la equidad, el compromiso, la inclusión y la innovación (DEIE), podemos impactar positivamente no solo a nuestra comunidad sino a la sociedad. Esto toma tiempo, pero poco a poco estamos trabajando para hacer esto posible.
En primer lugar, el comité DEIE de PVCC, compuesto por voluntarios dedicados de la facultad y el personal, han organizado una variedad de sesiones para ampliar/extender nuestro conocimiento. Las clases han incluido capacitación de moderadores de diálogo civil, capacitación en espacios seguros, atención sobre traumas, creación de espacios culturales seguros para estudiantes indígenas estadounidenses, alfabetización de razas, antirracismo, intersecciones entre género y raza, primeros auxilios de salud mental. Y apenas estamos comenzando….

El campus de Union Hills, se encuentra ubicado en el noreste de Phoenix, se distingue por su bella exposición de arte, donde podrás apreciar nuestro proyecto indígena de arte público para conmemorar el reconocimiento de nuestra tierra. Este proyecto fue una colaboración entre artistas nativos americanos y un equipo de profesores, personal y estudiantes de PVCC, quienes juntos diseñaron y crearon obras de arte permanentes para exhibirlas en el anfiteatro del Colegio. Además, la biblioteca Buxton del Colegio alberga artefactos chinos y esculturas de antiguos guerreros chinos, réplicas de tamaño completo del famoso ejército de terracota creado para proteger al emperador Qin Shi Huang en el más allá. Honrando la cultura y el patrimonio.
En el mes del Patrimonio el colegio realiza un sinnúmero de eventos y programas culturales para nuestros estudiantes, profesorado y la comunidad; por mencionar algunos: El mes de la historia afroamericana, El mes de la Herencia Hispana, El mes de la Herencia Nativa Americana y el Mes de la Historia de la Mujer. PVCC acaba de incorporar a su programa cultural el Mes de la Herencia Asiática, de las Islas del Pacífico y de la India así como también el Mes del Orgullo/LGBTQIA+.
Al inicio de cada semestre el club de Vida Estudiantil organiza un evento llamado Club Rush donde durante tres días los estudiantes son expuestos y asisten a una multitud de clubes. El evento atrae a cientos de estudiantes cada semestre y actúa como una puerta de entrada para que los recién llegados se involucren, sigan sus pasiones y encuentren a su gente.
Llegando a todos los rincones de nuestra Comunidad
- El club de Vida Estudiantil organiza distribuciones de alimentos trimestrales en asociación con el Banco de Alimentos de St. Mary's, sirviendo a más de 700 familias en la comunidad.
- El Festival Internacional de Cine estrena películas de talla mundial que presentan diferentes culturas e idiomas. Se lleva a cabo dos veces al año y atrae a cientos de espectadores y conocedores del cinema.
- La Semana del Emprendimiento y la Innovación presenta a líderes empresariales de PVCC y de todo el Valle, platicando acerca de la dinámica y el impacto de la innovación y el pensamiento empresarial en artes, finanzas, derecho, aprendizaje de servicio, ciencias de la salud, tecnología de la información, economía, gestión profesional y negocios.
