To help combat food insecurity, boxes of assorted snack options are now available across the Union Hills campus. The Buxton Library teamed up with our Puma Pantry Advisory Council to offer the Little Free Pantry, which contains non-perishable items for students.
“The idea is to help food-insecure students who would like to be more discreet about their needs when it comes to getting a meal,” said Alexis Romo, PVCC administrative specialist. “When the student life food pantry is closed, this is another way students can refuel by grabbing a quick snack.”
The E building and Q building currently contain the Little Free Pantries and PVCC hopes to widen its reach in the coming months. As the program evolves, PVCC’s nutrition faculty plan to create bagged groceries and recipes, encouraging students to take the items home and cook.
How You Can Help!
Our advisory council is calling on volunteers to help maintain the boxes with donations by filling out a form. Restocking the pantries is a service-learning opportunity to take advantage of and help out.
Additionally, there is a survey located at the pantry boxes, in which students can fill out with suggestions on how we can better serve our students. Students are also encouraged to take home food from the box and in exchange, complete a survey so that we may track the boxes’ usage.
