Mark your calendars! The 3rd annual Be a Student’s Hero Day of Giving at Paradise Valley Community College is just around the corner. Share with pride – #IAmAHero.
Nothing feels better than giving back and helping others. Beginning March 20, alumni, faculty, staff, students and friends of PVCC will come together in a valiant show of support and honor the gift of education and celebrate our Puma Community.
“Investing in our students, is investing in the future of our community,” said Mario Marquez, Development Officer Senior. “Donations to our PVCC scholarships/programs make a significant impact on the success of our students.”
Be a Student’s Hero is a Maricopa district-wide event celebrated amongst all 11 colleges under the Maricopa County Community College District umbrella and begins March 20. People are encouraged to donate over the four-day period – March 20 to 24. Donations go directly to PVCC’s Fund for Excellence, providing remarkable opportunities to enhance PVCC’s programs, fund the greatest needs of our campus, and grant scholarships to those who need it most.
“A scholarship is a way to help ease the financial burden and help students realize their potential and goals,” said Dr. Casey Durandet, PVCC Physics professor, who generously has offered to match up to $5,000 in donations to this year’s drive. “These students are our future, tomorrow’s leaders.”
As a recipient of a PVCC scholarship, PVCC student Audrey Hajek said, “My scholarship made it possible for me to focus on school and focus really hard which was excellent because of my learning disability; it gave me the time to really sit down and be critical about what I needed, and what I could accomplish without resources. And when I did that, it was just such a burden lifted off of me because I didn't have to worry about that financial component.”
“PVCC has made the difference in the lives of thousands of people since its inception," said Dr. Brianna DeGeus, Executive Director for Strategic Partnerships. “People often ask us how they can give back and the best way is to invest in our students. We have students facing all kinds of challenges- from lack of housing, inability to pay utility bills, and more. Even still they are dedicated to their education. This funding goes a long way towards helping them stay the course.”
