Summer in the Phoenix metropolitan area can be scorching, but there are plenty of ways to keep cool and enjoy the season.
1. Head Towards the Water
- Spend the day at one of Phoenix's popular water parks like Six Flags Hurricane Harbor or Big Surf. These parks offer a variety of water slides, wave pools, and lazy rivers.
- Many communities have public pools and splash pads. They're a great, budget-friendly way to cool off. Check out the splash pads at Scottsdale’s McCormick-Stillman Railroad Park or Mesa’s Riverview Park.
2. Explore Indoor Attractions
- Local museums and cultural centers offer air-conditioned enjoyment for all. A few popular indoor activities include visiting the Heard Museum, Phoenix Art Museum, and/or the Arizona Science Center.
- PVCC’s surrounding suburbs offer fantastic shopping malls as well. Scottsdale Fashion Square or Chandler Fashion Center not only can you shop, but many malls also have entertainment options such as movie theaters and arcades.
- Libraries and community centers offer a cool environment and often have free events and activities for all ages.
3. Take Advantage of Early Mornings and Evenings:
- Plan outdoor activities like hiking or biking for early morning or late evening when temperatures are cooler. Trails like Camelback Mountain and South Mountain Park are less crowded and more enjoyable during these times.
- As the sun sets, check out night markets, outdoor concerts, or stargazing at the Desert Botanical Garden’s Flashlight Nights.
4. Cool Down with Frozen Treats:
- Treat yourself to local ice cream shops like Sweet Republic or Churn. For something different, try gelato at Gelato 64 or grab a smoothie or juice at places like Jamba Juice or Nekter Juice Bar.
By planning your activities wisely and taking advantage of the many cool options available, you can stay comfortable and enjoy all that the Phoenix metropolitan area has to offer this summer. Stay cool and have fun!
