PVCC Recognized as a 2024 ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting

Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) has been honored as one of 471 colleges and universities recognized by the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge (ALL IN) for exceptional efforts to increase nonpartisan student voter participation in the 2024 election.

This recognition places PVCC among institutions leading the charge in fostering civic engagement and empowering students to participate in the democratic process. PVCC achieved this distinction by completing four critical actions:

  • Participating in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge.
  • Sharing 2022 National Study of Learning, Voting, and Engagement (NSLVE) Reports with campus voting data with ALL IN.
  • Developing and submitting a 2024 democratic engagement action plan with ALL IN.
  • Maintaining a current signatory to ALL IN’s Higher Education Presidents’ Commitment to Full Student Voter Participation.

“PVCC’s inclusion on the ALL IN Most Engaged Campus for College Student Voting list demonstrates the strength of our students’ commitment to civic engagement,” said Mike Ho, manager, Student Life. “Our goal is to provide students with the resources and support they need to not only register and vote but to feel confident and informed throughout the process. We aim to empower our community to understand the impact they can have on both local and national levels.”

PVCC President Dr. Jana Schwartz praised the efforts of faculty and staff, particularly Mike Ho, for their commitment to voter engagement. “This recognition reflects PVCC’s unwavering dedication to fostering civic responsibility and empowering students to engage in the democratic process. Mike Ho has excelled in reaching potential voters and inspiring voter participation—our civic duty, which is vital to shaping our future,” she explained.

PVCC supports voter engagement through its Civic Engagement Hub, designed to educate students on voter registration and participation. The college provides resources to help students and community members register, understand the issues, and locate polling places. PVCC also serves as an in-person voting center and ballot drop-off location for the Arizona General Assembly.

Jennifer Domagal-Goldman, Executive Director of the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, emphasized the importance of nonpartisan efforts. “The research is clear: colleges and universities that make intentional efforts to increase democratic engagement see higher voter registration and turnout rates. This year, we saw more campuses than ever before ensure their students were registered and ready to make their voices heard. These Most Engaged Campuses set the standard for civic engagement work nationwide.”

Earlier this year, PVCC earned top honors in the ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge, receiving awards for its outstanding work during the 2022 midterms:

  • Best in Class for Most Improved Voting Rate at a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI).
  • 2022 Arizona Campus Voting Challenge Most Improved Voting Rate: Community College.

The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge engages over 10.8 million students from more than 1,075 institutions across all 50 states and the District of Columbia. By fostering nonpartisan civic learning and voter participation, ALL IN helps campuses institutionalize democratic engagement.
