Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) students are once again making waves in the performing arts world as they head to the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival (KCACTF) Region VIII. This year’s festival will be held February 11-15, 2025, at Mesa Community College, and PVCC students are ready to showcase their talents in acting, directing, design, and stage management.
KCACTF is a national theater program involving 18,000 students from over 600 colleges and universities, providing a platform for participants to compete, collaborate, and learn. For PVCC, it’s an opportunity to shine on a regional and national stage. Since their first appearance in 2016 in Hawaii, PVCC students have garnered numerous accolades, including second place for stage management (awarded to students Courtney Kenyon and Meghan Parsons), the Heart of the Art Award (props by Kelly Johns and lighting by Olivia Terry), and advancing to the semi-finals and finals in the prestigious Irene Ryan Acting Scholarships.
“This festival validates the extraordinary efforts and talents of our students,” says Ryan Wentzel, PVCC’s Production manager and Technical Arts Director Professor. “It’s not just about the awards; it’s about recognizing the heart, creativity, and professionalism they bring to their work. These students aren’t just preparing for a festival—they’re preparing to lead the future of performing arts.”
Funded by MCCCD District tournament funds, the festival provides invaluable opportunities for PVCC students, including professional feedback, networking with industry leaders, and skill-building workshops. Beyond competing, students gain insights from other colleges, attend inspiring productions, and develop their craft in a supportive, creative environment.
PVCC’s dedication to theater education and its students’ consistent excellence at KCACTF underscores the strength of its program, making it a cornerstone of the local arts community.
