Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) and the Music Industries Studies’ program hosted its inaugural Mixtape concert last month as part of the Center for Performing Arts (CPA) Rock series. The unique, community-curated musical experience brought nearly 300 people together for an unforgettable night.
‘“Each song in the PVCC Mixtape concert was handpicked by the community, blending legendary hits from Chicago, Rush, Carrie Underwood, Stevie Wonder, Chappell Roan, Otis Redding, Alanis Morissette, Cake, and The Cure,” explained PVCC staff member Veda Garret, who coordinates the CPA box office. “The energy was electric, and attendees had an incredible time, with one audience member even exclaiming, ‘My cheeks hurt from smiling through the whole concert!’”
Prior to the main event, PVCC also held an opening reception, where attendees enjoyed appetizers from CortadoBC and mingled with friends and faculty, all while raising more than $650 for the MIS Scholarship Fund.
“Reception attendees had the opportunity to step back in time and play their favorite cassette tapes on a boombox! Who doesn’t love Huey Lewis and the News, the BeeGees, and Billy Joel?” said Becky Barndt, Program Coordinator for the Office of Strategic Partnerships.
“The night celebrated the power of music and community spirit,” said the Fine and Performing Arts Faculty Chair Dr. Chris Scinto.
The Music Industry Studies (MIS) department hosts a rock concert each semester, with a fresh theme each time, and next semester promises an MTV-themed event.
