For Lynn Clark, teaching at Paradise Valley Community College (PVCC) is more than just a job—it’s a calling. As the Accounting Program director and newly appointed Business and IT Division Chair, Clark brings more than 35 years of experience as a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) into the classroom, transforming accounting from a complex subject into an accessible and engaging learning experience. Her passion for teaching and dedication to her students create an environment where learning thrives, and futures are shaped.
Clark understands that today’s students face unique challenges. “The students we teach today face different hurdles than those of the past, especially those whose education was disrupted by the pandemic. Many are still working to strengthen their study skills, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities while also rising to the challenge of academic rigor,” she explained.
To support students, Clark has adopted a teaching philosophy centered on ‘meeting students where they are.’ She recognizes each student’s starting point and provides the guidance and resources they need to succeed, all while maintaining high academic standards. Her classroom is a safe space where students collaborate, think critically, and apply problem-solving strategies in real time. Rather than relying on PowerPoint lectures, she actively engages students in developing notes together, using a color-coded method to simplify complex accounting concepts into relatable terms.
“I hope to inspire the next generation of accountants and get them ready for their future careers,” Clark said, as her enthusiasm for accounting shone through. She frequently highlights the vast career opportunities available in the field, from managerial positions to forensic accounting, tax consulting, governmental work, and nonprofit sectors. Her energy is contagious, emphasizing that an accounting degree offers endless possibilities for career growth and lifelong learning.
"Lynn Clark's passion for teaching and her commitment to student success are truly inspiring,” said Dr. Jana Schwartz, PVCC President. “She embodies the values of our institution, and her contributions to our accounting program and the lives of our students are immeasurable. We are fortunate to have such an outstanding educator and leader in our community."
A Lasting Impact on Students
Clark’s influence extends far beyond the classroom. Her students recognize her dedication and the impact she has had on their academic and professional journeys. Stephanie Papadopoulos, a 2024 graduate with an associate’s degree in accounting and a tax certificate, recalls being impressed by Clark’s credentials from day one. “Clark was so enthusiastic and encouraging that it made me want to work harder. She is the reason that I went into accounting,” she stated.
Students appreciate Clark’s ability to connect them with real-world opportunities. Her vast network within the Phoenix business community ensures that students leave PVCC with the credentials and experience necessary to succeed. “Professor Clark understands students' busy lives and is able to meet students where they are, not expecting more,” Papadopoulos said.
Cami Frogge, a first-generation student, echoed these sentiments and proclaimed Clark a mentor and a guiding force. “There are no words to fully capture the impact Professor Clark has had on my life. She is a role model and a guiding force,” Frogge said. “Her passion for accounting radiated through every lecture, making the subject not only engaging but exciting. Her enthusiasm and sense of humor created a learning environment that was both informative and enjoyable. Beyond the classroom, she generously shared invaluable real-world insights—her own college experiences, her time at one of the Big Four accounting firms, the challenges of passing the CPA exam, working with clients, and countless other accomplishments that showcased her expertise.”
Beyond her line up of classes including Principles of Accounting I & II, Managerial Accounting, and Intermediate Accounting, Clark actively invests in her students' futures, helping them secure job interviews and internships while guiding them toward their career goals.
A Leader in Business and Education
Clark’s contributions to PVCC extend beyond her teaching. She served as the faculty advisor for the Business and Technology Club/DECA Chapter, earning the title of Club Advisor of the Year in 2019. Her commitment to student success has been recognized with multiple accolades, including the League for Innovation 2021/2022 Employee Excellence Award and the PVCC Puma Praise Award for Excellence.
One of her most significant contributions to PVCC has been her role in developing the Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) in Accounting program, further expanding opportunities for students pursuing careers in accounting.
Outside of education, Clark brings a wealth of experience from the financial services and healthcare industries. She previously owned and operated her own CPA firm, specializing in small business consulting. As a proud first-generation college graduate herself, she holds a BBA in Accounting from Adelphi University and a Master of Science in Accounting from Grand Canyon University. She remains an active member of the Arizona Society of CPAs and Teachers of Accounting at Two-Year Colleges.
Lynn Clark’s passion, mentorship, and leadership have left a lasting impact on PVCC and its students. She continues to cultivate a learning environment where students feel empowered, supported, and ready to take on the professional world. As her students embark on their accounting careers, they do so with confidence, resilience, and an appreciation for the discipline—thanks to a professor who truly loves what she does.
