Outreach Efforts
High School Outreach
In efforts to build collaborative partnerships with our local high schools’ Teacher Academies, our Club Ed leaders host activities for high school students. Our Club Ed ambassadors lead Teacher Academy students through several exercises that prompt engagement and discussion in the classroom.
Structured Autism Program
Partnering with the Paradise Valley Unified School District, PVCC Education students assist teachers in preparation of materials to support the student in their classes. PVUSD teachers present a 20-30 minute presentation regarding Autism and the strategies used in the Structured Autism Program. Following the presentation EDU students take a tour of the classrooms and then reconvene for a "work party" and dinner. The EDU department partnered with Volunteers in Paradise in 2012.
Volunteer in Paradise College Corps
The Volunteer in Paradise program is a unique program that matches our EDU students with a teacher in a participating PVUSD school. This hands on opportunity gives students the ability to fulfill service-learning hours required for class as well as gain experience to list on their resumes.
Festival of Tales
Each semester EDU students participate in the Festival of Tales. This large collaborative literacy celebration offers children a variety of activities from planned arts and crafts tables and experiences, book walk games, live music, food, and interactive storytelling sessions. EDU students have the extraordinary opportunity to host interactive activities, become authentic storytellers, and truly make a difference by showing the power of literacy to children and families. Also, volunteers from the community are more than welcome to join in this initiative.
