Dr. Lois Roma-Deeley Creative Writing Scholarship Endowment
PVCC recognizes the contribution of Dr. Lois Roma-Deeley, founding director of the PVCC Creative Writing program. Now retired, during her decades-long tenure at PVCC, Dr. Roma-Deeley distinguished herself as a writer, teacher and program head by creating, coordinating and implementing creative writing courses, workshops, student literary contests and student literary journal. Because of her efforts, the Creative Writing program enjoys a national reputation. Dr. Roma-Deeley created an environment wherein student-writers at all levels of experience found encouragement, instruction and opportunities to write and publish their own work. The Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching and the Council for the Advancement and Support of Education named Dr. Roma-Deeley a 2012 U.S. Professor of the Year. This is the most prestigious award a professor in America can receive. Dr. Roma-Deeley is the first and only professor in the state of Arizona to be so named.
Criteria: Assist students currently enrolled at PVCC in areas related to their development as creative writers such as tuition, conferences, guest lecturers, speakers, workshops or other activities.
