HESI A2

MaricopaNursing Applicants

Students applying to the MaricopaNursing Program will need to complete the following sections of the HESI A2: Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, Math, Learning Style, Personality Style and Critical Thinking. 

The Science sections (Biology, Chemistry, Anatomy & Physiology and Physics) will NOT be administered or used for admission. Visit the MaricopaNursing information page for required test scores. 

The exam has a 4-hour time limit and costs $45. When you schedule your exam, select “HESI A2 (Maricopa Nursing)” or else you may take the wrong exam.

Non-Maricopa Applicants

Students testing for a nursing program that is not part of the Maricopa Community College District will be charged $70. ($45 for the exam and $25 for the proctoring fee). All sections are available for this option - Reading Comprehension, Grammar, Vocabulary & General Knowledge, Math, Anatomy & Physiology, Biology, and Chemistry. 

This exam is untimed. All exams must be submitted at least 15 minutes before the testing center closes. When scheduling your exam, you must select “HESI A2 Non-Maricopa” or else you may take the wrong exam. If you need any of the Science sections you must request the extra sections.

Prepare for the HESI A2

  • All testers must have a Maricopa Student Account. To apply, please visit https://admissions.maricopa.edu/ to submit your application.
    • If you are testing for a college outside the Maricopa County Community College District, you will still need to have an MCCCD Student Account for payment processing and record keeping of scores.
  • Create your Evolve account and bring your Evolve username and password on the day of the test. Follow these instructions: HESI A2 Account Setup Instructions.
  • Study before your test! Information about the test and test preparation materials are available online at: https://evolve.elsevier.com/studentlife/hesi.html
    • Please note: Hand-held calculators are not permitted while taking the exam. Testers will need to use the calculator that appears in the testing program.

ON CAMPUS HESI A2                                                   

Bring the following items with you to your appointment:

  • A current, valid government-issued photo ID 
  • Your Evolve username and password
  • Payment method for fee - cash, check, money order, debit/credit card

Scores

You will receive your scores immediately after testing. Scores are valid for two years.

Retesting Policy

You may retest after a 60-day waiting period. Up to two retests are permitted within one year from the date of the first valid test. This retesting policy applies to both MaricopaNursing and Non-Maricopa applicants.
