The first step is to meet with an Academic Advisor for Nursing at PVCC. They will inform you of the courses needed to apply for the program. You can also review the MaricopaNursing Website for requirements, application process, etc.
Each block has different costs based on required fees, books, supplies, etc. Tuition can increase or decrease each academic year, which is determined by the MCCCD Governing Board.
If you need help covering these costs, please reach out to PVCC’s Financial Aid Office for information about federal, state, and scholarship funding.
The Traditional Nursing Program allows a student to graduate with an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) at PVCC. The AAS allows students to apply for licensure as an RN. If the student decides, they can then transfer to the university of their choice. For more information about the Traditional Nursing Program, please meet with an Academic Advisor for Nursing at PVCC.
The CEP allows a student to graduate with both an AAS at PVCC and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) with one of our university partners concurrently (at the same time). For more information about CEP, please visit the MaricopaNursing website.

No, the Nursing Division enrolls all students in the required courses.
HESI stands for “Health Education Systems, Inc” and the A2 stands for “Admission Assessment.” The HESI A2 exam is used to determine eligibility for students applying to the Nursing Program, similar to the assessment testing students take upon admission to the college. It only tests on English Composition and Math and is a 4 hour timed test.

NCLEX stands for National Council Licensure Examination. They are the standardized tests nurses need to pass in order to become either a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or a Registered Nurse (RN). Anyone who wants to work as a nurse will be required to take and pass the NCLEX exam once they have completed a nursing degree from an approved program.

Currently only available at GateWay Community College (GWCC), the Practical Nurse Program is a two-semester program leading to a certificate of completion in Practical Nursing. Following successful completion of the program, the graduate is eligible to sit for the NCLEX-PN examination.
The Paramedic to AAS Degree in the Nursing Bridge Program (NUR106) is a transition course that will provide paramedics with the theory and clinical competencies to successfully progress into the second or third semester of the MaricopaNursing Program. Advanced Placement is for students who are
- LPNs seeking to complete the RN degree, OR
- Students who have dropped, failed, or withdrawn from the MaricopaNursing program after successfully completing NUR172 (Block 2), OR
- Students who have completed nursing coursework outside of MaricopaNursing and wish to complete their nursing degree.

Applicants may defer placement. If the applicant chooses not to attend the nursing program after placement is accepted, the applicant may not be eligible for deferral and the application may be withdrawn. Please refer to the MaricopaNursing Handbook for additional information.
To receive a printout confirmation of immunizations:
- You can contact your medical provider OR
- You can also request your records from the State of Arizona Department of Health Services. Note: if you received your Immunizations in another state, you will have to contact that state’s Department of Health Services OR
- If you cannot get a copy, you can complete the immunizations again
As of December 2021, all students are required to complete the NA Program before admissions into the Nursing Program. Talk to an Academic Advisor to ensure that you are on the right path when it comes to courses for the Nursing Program.
SNA stands for Student Nurses Association. Students can be involved with their association on PVCC’s Campus and through the National Student Nurses Association.
MaricopaNursing refers students to ApparelPro for uniform purchases. MaricopaNursing students are required to purchase uniforms in Caribbean blue.

No. Clinical rotations are decided based on facility availability offered by our clinical partners. These can change each semester. Students are placed randomly.
