Honors Contracts

Honors Contracts

Students who are unable to enroll in an Honors course can earn Honors credit for a regular course by completing an Honors contract. An Honors contract is a paper or project completed in addition to all regular coursework. The requirements of the paper or project are determined in consultation with the professor teaching the course, who must be willing and agree to oversee the completion of the contract. An Honors contract project can range from conducting field research with your Geology professor, writing a research paper for an Economics course, producing tutorial videos for a Math class, or choreographing an interpretive dance for your Chemistry course.

Student Responsibilities

  • Communicate with the Honors department about your desire to complete a contract.
  • Brainstorm project ideas and formats before approaching the professor.
  • Meet with your professor to discuss the contract and determine requirements for completion.
  • Complete and submit the contract form with the professor.
  • Work outside of class time on the project and meet with your professor regularly for updates and feedback.
  • Complete your project.
  • Participate in the Honors Showcase, where you will present your project to judges in-person.

Professor Responsibilities

  • Complete project contract with the student and set expectations.
  • Establish clear guidelines for successfully completing the project.
  • Meet with the student at pre-set dates and times to provide guidance and feedback.
  • Report the result of the project to Honors.
  • Optional but encouraged: Attend Honors Showcase to view the student’s project presentation.
  • Note: Working with students on an Honors contract counts as service to the college!
